In 1925, two years after its foundation, Daibiru constructed Daibiru Building, one of the major office buildings in western Japan, foreseeing the concentration of businesses in cities. In 1927, construction of Hibiya Daibiru Building in Hibiya, Tokyo, was completed.
The 8-story Hibiya Daibiru Building adopted the "core system" used for skyscrapers in New York.
Numerous architects were impressed by Hibiya Daibiru Building's elegant external form, which was the crystallization of Daibiru's passion for urban development.
With the core system, common use areas of a building, such as elevators, corridors, hot water supply systems and water-supply facilities, are located at the center of the building. Its rationality and cost efficiency contributed to the progress of the building concepts and were highly regarded by the Architectural Institute of Japan. The history of the Japanese office buildings is synonymous with the history of Daibiru, an enterprise that responds to the needs of the era. |
