Section 3. Strengthening Our Corporate Structure

2. Getting Listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange

Our company was listed on the Osaka Securities Exchange on December 1, 1950, and on the Kyoto Stock Exchange on November 1, 1954. However, leaving Osaka aside, we undeniably lacked name recognition in Tokyo, which was a significant handicap for our sales activities and hiring. Therefore, at a meeting held on June 28, 1983, the Board of Directors resolved to apply for a listing on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and we submitted a stock exchange listing application on July 15. The reason for our desire to be listed there was to broaden our fundraising avenues in accordance with our intent to expand our business in Tokyo.

After a rigorous listing screening and site inspections by the stock exchange, an application for listing approval was submitted by the exchange to the Minister of Finance at the time on October 28, 1983, and the listing was approved by the Minister of Finance on December 6.

In order to secure the stipulated number of full lot shareholders, 3,740, which was one of the listing criteria, our company asked Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, our biggest shareholder, to release 400,000 shares, Sumitomo Metal Industries to release 200,000 shares, and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. to release 200,000 shares. A total of 800,000 shares could then be offered for sale, thus securing the stipulated number of shareholders.

On December 12, 1983, our company became listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange with an initial share price of 370 yen. Prior to this, on September 5 of that year, our stock had been designated loanable stock that qualified for margin trading on the Osaka Securities Exchange, giving it the status of a major stock. On September 2, 1996, our company was selected to be a loanable stock on the Tokyo Stock Exchange as well.
