Ministry of the Environment Theme Week “The Future of Earth and Biodiversity” :Introducing initiatives of Shin-Daibiru Building Dojima-no-mori Garden
DAIBIRU CORPORATION (President & CEO: Takashi Maruyama; head office: Kita-ku, Osaka; hereinafter “the Company”) will exhibit at the Ministry of Environment (MOE) Theme Week “The Future of Earth and Biodiversity,” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
This exhibition will introduce the Company’s initiatives aimed at reconciling biodiversity conservation with urban development at the Shin-Daibiru Building Dojima-no-Mori Garden, which has been certified by the MOE as a “Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Sites.”*1 At the exhibition, visitors will be able to witness initiatives for a sustainable future, including those embodying the spirit of sustainability passed down at the Company—which established Japan’s first rooftop garden around 60 years ago—as well as our commitment to creating environments in which lush greenery and diverse lifeforms can coexist in the hearts of cities.

Shin-Daibiru Building Dojima-no-mori Garden
Inheriting the spirit of Japan’s first rooftop garden, which was established on top of the former Shin-Daibiru Building upon its completion in 1963, and taking as our concept “a garden that is beneficial not just for people but for living creatures,” we transplanted trees which were over 50 years old and had flourished in the former building’s rooftop garden to develop a green space approximately 3,300 m2 in size. These initiatives helped ensure that we were awarded the highest rank of “AAA” under the Japan Habitat Evaluation and Certification Program (JHEP) accreditation system, which evaluates contributions to ecosystems. This marked the first time a company in Western Japan had attained this distinction.
Following biological monitoring surveys for the assessment of its contributions to ecosystems conducted in fiscal years 2016, 2020, and 2024, it was confirmed that a stable food chain had become established within the Dojima-no-Mori Garden.
We also participate in the “30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity” together with our parent company, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., and are promoting activities to achieve the target of conserving over 30% of land and sea by the year 2030. As part of these efforts, the Shin-Daibiru Building Dojima-no-Mori Garden obtained the MOE “Nature Coexistence Site” certification in 2023, with the site also registered in an international biodiversity database.
